New Town Townhouse Renovation: Strip-Out & Site Preparation
Share
We're starting a new renovation project in a traditional townhouse in Edinburgh's New Town, where our clients have engaged us to carry out structural alterations to create a more connected living space.
The main element of the project involves removing a load-bearing wall between the front room and rear kitchen. Opening up these two rooms will allow more natural light to travel through the property and create a better connection between the living and kitchen areas.
As with any renovation of a traditional Edinburgh townhouse, we're approaching the work sensitively, taking care to respect the property's existing architectural character and period features.
Preparing the Property
Our first stage has been to strip out the existing flooring in preparation for a new herringbone floor, which will be laid as the renovation progresses.
We've also installed protective dust screening to help contain construction dust and prevent it spreading into other areas of the property while the structural work is undertaken.
These early preparations are an important part of managing a renovation in an occupied or partially occupied property, helping protect surrounding rooms and finishes throughout the building process.

What's Next?
With the initial strip-out and site protection underway, the next stage will focus on the structural wall removal and creating the opening between the two rooms.
