Cupola

A cupola is a roof-level glazed structure used to introduce natural light into spaces that might otherwise receive little direct daylight. They are particularly associated with traditional Edinburgh architecture and can often be seen illuminating stairwells, halls and internal areas within tenements and larger period properties.

Unlike a simple modern roof window, a traditional cupola can form a distinctive architectural feature in its own right, incorporating timber framing, glazing and decorative detailing.
