main-door flat

A main-door flat is a flat with its own private entrance directly from the street or outside, rather than being accessed through a shared communal stair.

Main-door flats are a familiar Edinburgh property type, particularly within traditional tenement, Georgian and Victorian buildings.

Unlike flats entered from a communal stair, a main-door flat has its own external entrance. Depending on the building, it may occupy the ground floor, basement level or multiple internal levels and can retain many of the same period features found elsewhere in the property.

Renovation may include restoring original joinery and plasterwork, reconfiguring layouts, installing new kitchens and bathrooms and undertaking structural alterations.
