Door Frame

A door frame is the fixed assembly around an opening that holds the door and receives its hinges, latch or lock.

The frame has to suit the door leaf, wall opening and way the door will be used. Its jambs and head provide the surfaces against which the leaf fits and closes.

An Edinburgh property may have original timber frames with irregular openings and multiple layers of paint. A sticking door might be caused by the frame, the hinges, movement or humidity, so the frame should be inspected before the leaf is trimmed.

Door lining is often used for a simple internal frame. External frames also need suitable thresholds, weather seals, secure fixings and detailing at the surrounding wall.
