Door Lining

A door lining is the timber or other frame assembly fitted within a wall opening to receive an internal door, hinges and latch.

A lining provides a straight, correctly sized opening for the door. It typically includes side members and a head, with stops or rebates to locate the closed leaf.

During an Edinburgh flat renovation, a new internal doorway may need a lining sized for the finished wall thickness and the chosen door. A wall that is out of plumb can make fitting and architrave details more involved.

Door frame is the wider term. “Door lining” is commonly used for the relatively simple frame around an internal door; an external door frame is specified for weather and security as well.
