Engineered Timber Flooring

Engineered timber flooring is a wood floor product made from a real timber top layer bonded to a layered core.

The layered construction differs from a solid timber board. Board thickness, the depth of the top layer and the core vary between products, affecting how a floor can be installed and later refinished.

In an Edinburgh renovation, engineered timber may be considered when a consistent new finish is wanted across altered rooms. The existing subfloor must be sufficiently sound, level and dry for the chosen installation method.

Compatibility with underfloor heating, if proposed, depends on the specific product and the heating design. Thresholds, door clearances and sound transmission between flats should be planned before the boards are laid.
