Stud Partition

A stud partition is an internal wall built from a frame of timber or metal studs with board or other finishes fixed to either side.

Stud partitions divide rooms and can provide space for insulation and services. They are common in newer work and may also have been added during later alterations to Edinburgh flats and houses.

A stud wall is often non-load-bearing, but its construction alone does not prove it can be removed without checks. It may support fittings, contain services, provide fire or acoustic separation, or have acquired a supporting role through previous changes.

In a shared building, changing a partition can affect sound insulation and compartmentation as well as room layout. Check the wall’s actual role before demolition or relocation.
