Timber Panelling

Timber panelling is woodwork fitted across part or all of an interior wall, using boards, framed panels or applied mouldings.

Timber panelling may be original joinery or a new finish designed for a particular room. It can cover a full wall, form a lower dado or frame selected sections.

In an Edinburgh period interior, the panel sizes and rails should relate to doors, skirtings and the height of the room. Existing timber panels may be worth repairing before a new design is considered.

The term describes the material. Wall panelling is broader and may be made from timber, sheet goods or other materials. Check the wall behind the proposed panelling for moisture or loose finishes before enclosing it.
