Windows doors

Casement Window

A casement window is a window whose opening leaf is hinged to its frame, usually at the side, top or bottom.

Casements open on hinges rather than sliding vertically like sash and case windows. They may be timber, metal or another material, with opening style and hardware varying by age and design.

Edinburgh properties include both traditional sash windows and casements, particularly in later additions, roof spaces and some modern homes. Identify the existing type before ordering replacement components or planning ventilation.

A sound repair checks the hinges, glazing, seals, timber condition and how water drains from the frame. The surrounding opening and any heritage constraints may also affect replacement choices.
