Walls plaster

Dry Lining

Dry lining is a method of lining walls or ceilings with plasterboard or similar boards instead of applying traditional wet plaster directly to the substrate.

Boards may be fixed to a frame or attached to a suitable wall by an appropriate system. The surface is then jointed or skimmed before decoration.

Dry lining can help form new partitions and tidy altered rooms, but it changes the relationship between the room and the original wall. In Edinburgh stone properties, concealing a damp wall behind boards may leave moisture problems unresolved and can put hidden timbers at risk.

The design should account for the existing substrate, services, insulation, moisture movement and any acoustic or fire requirements. A smooth new lining is only successful if the wall behind it is understood.
