Extractor Fan

An extractor fan is a powered fan that removes humid or stale air from a room through a duct or external outlet.

Bathroom fans may operate with the light, a timer, a humidity sensor or a separate control. The selected fan has to overcome the resistance of its actual duct route, not merely suit the room volume on paper.

A long, narrow or poorly routed duct can reduce airflow and collect condensation. In an Edinburgh flat, reaching a suitable external termination may be more difficult than fitting the visible fan.

The fan is one component of bathroom extraction. Replacement air, ducting, controls and the external grille all influence whether the system manages moisture effectively.
