Pocket Door

A pocket door is a sliding door that disappears into a cavity within an adjacent wall when open.

Pocket doors can save the swing space needed for a hinged door. The wall has to contain the door leaf, track and pocket, so the available wall length and construction need checking early.

In an Edinburgh flat renovation, a new lightweight partition may be easier to plan around a pocket-door system than an existing stone wall. Services, sockets and structural elements in the proposed pocket cannot simply remain where they are.

The specified system should suit the door size and the room’s privacy, acoustic and fire requirements. A pocket door solves a space problem only if access for operation and future maintenance is properly detailed.
