Screed

Screed is a layer laid over a suitable base to create a level or shaped surface for the final floor finish.

A screed can be cement based or made from another specified system. Its thickness, drying requirements and compatibility with the finish above depend on the product and the floor design.

During an Edinburgh kitchen or extension project, screed may form a new floor base or enclose part of an underfloor heating system. Its added depth and weight should be checked against thresholds, doors and the supporting structure.

Screed should not be used as a quick cover for an unresolved damp or unstable floor. The substrate, moisture control and required finish determine which build-up is suitable.
