Scrim Tape

Scrim tape is reinforcing mesh or paper tape applied over plasterboard joints or cracks before a finishing coat.

Scrim tape helps bridge the joint between plasterboards so a skim coat has reinforcement across the change in surface. Self-adhesive mesh is commonly used, though the appropriate tape depends on the jointing system and finish.

In an Edinburgh flat refurbishment, scrim may be used where new board meets board or in a prepared repair. The tape cannot compensate for loose boards, continuing movement or a poorly fixed ceiling.

If a crack repeatedly returns, find out why the surfaces move before taping and plastering again. Scrim is a finishing detail, not a structural repair.
