Sliding Doors

Sliding doors move horizontally along a track to open an internal or external doorway without a hinged swing.

A sliding door can run in front of a wall, disappear into a pocket within it or form part of a large glazed opening to a garden. These arrangements have different space, track and maintenance requirements.

For an Edinburgh extension or renovation, glazed sliding doors can make a strong visual connection to the outside while keeping furniture clear of a door swing. Their weight, threshold, drainage and the structure over the opening need careful design.

An internal sliding door may save floor space, but its acoustic and privacy performance depends on the system. A pocket door is a particular type of sliding door that retracts into a wall.
