Snagging

Snagging is the process of identifying and correcting minor defects, incomplete items or finish issues near the end of a building project.

A snagging list might record uneven decoration, poorly adjusted doors, missing sealant, scratched fittings or items that have not been completed to the agreed specification.

Snagging should be carried out systematically, with each item described and located clearly enough for the responsible trade to resolve it. It is useful before handover, but it should not replace inspections during the work.

Serious defects, non-compliant construction and changes to the agreed scope are not merely cosmetic snags. They may require design input, opening-up work or a separate remedial plan.
