Strip-Out

Strip-out is the planned removal of selected internal finishes, fittings, services or non-structural elements to prepare a building for refurbishment or alteration.
Strip-Out

The work may remove kitchens, bathrooms, floor coverings, ceilings, partitions and redundant services while retaining the structure and identified historic or reusable fabric.

A controlled strip-out needs surveys, service isolation, waste planning and a clear record of what must remain. Older Edinburgh properties may also contain concealed hazards or fragile period features that require specialist handling.

Opening up during strip-out often reveals the true condition of walls, floors and services. The programme and budget should allow the team to assess these findings before new work conceals them again.
