Floors

Timber Flooring

Timber flooring is a finished floor made from wood, including solid boards and engineered timber products.

Timber flooring describes the visible material rather than the structure beneath it. Solid boards and engineered boards have different constructions, fixing methods and responses to changes in indoor conditions.

Edinburgh flats may contain original softwood floorboards as well as later hardwood or engineered finishes. Before replacing an existing floor, inspect the boards, joists and any previous repairs; the surface alone does not show the condition below.

The choice of product and installation should suit the subfloor, movement, expected wear and the acoustic needs of the building. In a flat, the floor build-up can matter as much as the timber species or colour.
