Concealed Cistern

A concealed cistern is a toilet flushing cistern hidden within a wall, service void or fitted furniture, leaving only the flush control and toilet visible.

The cistern may be installed within a support frame for a wall-hung toilet or behind boxing for a floor-mounted pan. Its depth and service connections need to be allowed for in the room layout.

Access for adjustment, maintenance and replacement parts should be designed into the installation, commonly through the flush plate or a removable panel. Permanently sealing the mechanism behind tile creates an avoidable future problem.

In a compact Edinburgh bathroom, concealment can make the room feel calmer, but the required void reduces usable dimensions. The build-up should be measured before sanitaryware is ordered.
