Kitchen-Diner

A kitchen-diner combines cooking and dining space within the same room or connected open area.

A kitchen-diner can be created by reorganising an existing room, removing a wall or adding an extension. It does not automatically mean the entire ground floor is open plan.

For an Edinburgh property, the layout should give the dining area enough space and daylight without disrupting movement between the kitchen, hall and garden. Islands and peninsulas can define zones but may crowd a narrower room.

Where a wall is removed, structural support and the effect on fire and acoustic separation need to be addressed alongside the cabinetry and furniture plan.
