Pantry

A pantry is a dedicated cupboard, cabinet or small room used for storing food, ingredients and kitchen supplies.

A pantry may be a walk-in room, a tall fitted unit or a ventilated traditional cupboard. Shelving depth and visibility matter: very deep shelves can create more hidden space than useful storage.

In an Edinburgh kitchen, an existing press or alcove can sometimes be adapted as a pantry while retaining the room’s original proportions. New joinery can also integrate drawers, internal lighting and storage for small appliances.

The design should suit what will actually be stored and avoid warm or damp locations. A pantry is food-focused storage; a general utility cupboard serves a broader household purpose.
