Wet Room

A wet room is a bathroom or shower area designed with a waterproofed floor and walls so water can drain directly from the open showering space.

The floor is formed to fall toward a drain, with a continuous waterproofing system beneath the visible finish. Screens may still be used to control spray even though a raised enclosure is absent.

In an Edinburgh property, floor depth, joist direction and drainage routes can affect the layout and threshold. Correct preparation is critical because a failure can affect adjoining rooms or a flat below.

A walk-in shower may use a tray and waterproof only the immediate shower area. A true wet room treats the wider room as part of the waterproofed system.
