Kitchen Splashback

A kitchen splashback is a cleanable wall finish placed behind a worktop, sink or hob to protect the surface from water, grease and cooking marks.

Splashbacks may be made from tile, glass, metal, stone or another suitable material. They can be limited to a small working area or continue around the kitchen as a full-height finish.

The layout should coordinate with sockets, cabinets, worktop upstands and extraction. Small misalignments become obvious where tile joints or panel edges meet these fixed elements.

Behind a hob, the material and clearances must suit the appliance and its installation requirements. A splashback is a finish rather than a remedy for an unresolved damp or damaged wall.
