Technical Drawings

Technical drawings are detailed construction documents showing how building elements are dimensioned, assembled, supported and coordinated.

They may include wall and roof build-ups, junctions, stairs, waterproofing, fire protection, drainage and bespoke joinery details. Their purpose is to turn the design into buildable information.

Technical drawings are more developed than concept or planning drawings and should coordinate with structural calculations, specifications and manufacturers’ requirements.

On an Edinburgh renovation, details often need to respond to irregular existing fabric and moisture behaviour. Standard details should not be copied without checking the actual building.
