Structural Drawings

Structural drawings are technical drawings showing the arrangement, dimensions and construction of structural elements within a proposed building project.

They may identify beams, columns, foundations, joists, connections, bearings and reinforcement, with notes and details explaining how the components are to be formed and connected.

Structural drawings are normally read alongside calculations, architectural information and the relevant specifications. They translate the engineer’s design into information that can be reviewed and constructed.

On a renovation, existing conditions may differ from assumptions made before opening-up work. Any discrepancy should be referred back to the designer rather than improvised on site.
